British Easter traditions
For many years now, Brits have celebrated Easter by hunting for hidden Easter nests. They imported this tradition from Germany. The Easter Bunny is in charge of hiding the nest, which is filled with Easter eggs. Eggs can either be hard-boiled and dyed, or made of chocolate.
Every year on Easter Sunday, the people of Bern gather on Kornhausplatz at 10 a.m. Everyone brings their own Easter eggs. (No Easter eggs are sold there.) Then the fun begins: the competition for which egg has the hardest shell. People face off in pairs smashing their eggs against one another’s to see whose will crack.
SPRING IN BERN
The days are getting warmer, the trees are getting greener, the flowers are blooming. There are 132 public parks across all of Bern. The most well known are surely the historical Elfenau park and the Rosengarten with its sensational view of Bern’s Old Town (which you can see in the photo below). After a stroll in the park, sitting outdoors at a cafe in Bern’s historic Old Town is simply marvellous – and, of course, taking a selfie at the fountain in front of the Swiss House of Parliament is a must.
